WZDX first logged on in 1985 as Northern Alabama’s first independent channel. It was the area’s first new channel to inaugurate in nearly two decades. The channel basically telecast in analog on channel 54. The inaugural show projected was an airing of the 1968 film Charly. The channel’s transmitting tower was on Green Mountain in Southeastern Huntsville. Its offices were in the northwestern section of the city. For the duration of the first few months after its beginning, WZDX used the slogan “We’re Taking You to the Top!” It ran full-page ads in The Huntsville Times with this label and with still pictures of old movies and syndicated TV shows that the WZDX scheduled to air.
Fox started telecasting on October 6, 1986. By this time WZDX FOX refrained from associating with the network. Unlike many other independent TV channels across the country.
