Roughly signing one year later, extra stockholders bought control of the channel and changed the callsign to the current WWMT CBS 3 News Grand Rapids. In 1987, WXMI FOX News logged an association contract to become the business’s Fox associate. It merged with the network on April 9, 1987. It happened when WXMI Fox prolonged its product offerings to include prime time production. In 1989, the channel’s stock was bought by a New York-based company controlled by Robert Dudley called Odyssey Television Partners.

The Saturday morning time period is presently divided between the weekend edition of WXMI’s morning news bulletin and children’s production.

On March 20, 2019, the Cincinnati-based E. W. Scripps Company proclaimed it would buy WXMI from Nexstar. This would happen after consummation of the merger, marking Scripps’ entry into Virginia. It was part of the company’s sale of nineteen Nexstar- and Tribune-operated channels.
