On March 24, 1948, in the beginning, the Cameron Television Corporation was doing business as George E. Cameron Inc. They wrote an application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a development certification to construct and permit to run a telecast television channel in Tulsa. It was supposed to transmit on VHF channel 6. The company was under the authority of George E. Cameron Jr., KOTV CBS was a Texas-born private oil producer, telecasting executive Maria Helen Alvarez, and John B. Hill. Whereas he was a salesman for a Tulsa oil field supplier. Both Maria and Hill worked as KOTV’s original sales manager, and Alvarez was a 15% shareholder in the company.
The formation of the partnership developed when Alvarez led a study approved by John Toole “J.T.” Griffin. At the time, he was an employee of the city Telecasting Company. Later he became the owner of local radio channel KOTV CBS. He was the main owner and president of Tulsa Telecasting and Muskogee-based wholesale food distributor Griffin Grocery Company. This also included his fellow, Marjory Griffin Leake.
