KHOU CBS 11 NewsDuring the 2016–17 television time period, KHOU became the second-largest associate of CBS channel by business size, after passing Atlanta. It was not under the authority of the network. The channel first logged on the air on March 23, 1953, as KHNL NBC 13 News Honolulu. It was inaugurated by Paul Taft of the Taft Telecasting Co. The channel had no relation to the Cincinnati-based Taft Telecasting Company.

It was initially certified to Galveston. KHOU CBS News was the second television channel to launch in the Houston business. It came right after KPRC-TV, 2. KHOU CBS News took on the secondary CBS association from KPRC-TV as the network’s new main associate. The station has been affiliated with the network ever from that time. One of the main shareholders in the television was actor James Stewart. Along with him were a small group of other Galveston shareholders. The office was situated at 2002 45th Street in Galveston.

In 1956, the main owners auctioned the KHOU CBS to the Indianapolis-based Whitney Corporation. They later altered their name to Corinthian Telecasting. This turned out to be a subsidiary of Dun & Bradstreet in 1971. In June 1959, the station renamed its call-sign to KHOU-TV. The”-TV” suffix was deleted from the call letters. It had its city of certified resituated to Houston. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certified listed both the Houston and Galveston service areas for a time. On April 24, 1960, the channel shifted to its first Houston facilities at 1945 Allen Parkway.
