It was regionally maintained by Albert M. Caldwell& Walter Stiles. The channel initially ran from workplaces located on Tulane Drive. The native owners sold the station to Alvarado Television in 1957. The station then attained the ABC association from KOB. It also runs projects from the DuMont Television Network. In 1962, both stations were then sold by Alvarado to Steinman Stations. They hold WAGAL ABC TV in Lancaster Pennsylvania and later attained WTEV in Bedford, Massachusetts. The station shifted its headquarters in the early 1960s to a news provision allocated in Albuquerque. KOAT inaugurated a new state of the art facility in 1982, on the interchange of Carlisle and Comanche in Northeast Albuquerque.

ABC KOAT 7ABC KOAT 7 News uses a category of the Circle 7 Logo which was used by many different ABC stations. The “Circle 7” logo has been utilized at KOAT from 1971 and the Action News title since 1974. The first Circle 7 logo was inside a square but currently, KOAT uses a regular Circle 7 logo for its news bulletins, and a distinction with the ABC logo for all other station promotions and recognition.

Over the decades, KOAT has been known as one of the accomplished ABC associates in the country. Factually it is seen in more than 95% of New Mexico, also some parts of Arizona Colorado Texas, and small divisions of Kansas, Oklahoma Utah.
