On May 16, 1954, WGME CBS News made its first appearance as WGAN-TV. It was under the authority of Guy great Communications along with WGAN Portland and the Portland Press-Herald daily newspaper. It was an FM channel, 102.9. In 1967, WGAN Portland was added. The transmission tower is situated near Route 121 in Raymond. It is 1,619-foot-tall (493.5 m). The tower was constructed during 1959. It was the world’s tallest architectural structure at the time. As mentioned in the 1999 Guinness Book of World Records. In 1960, KFVS-TV’s tower in Cape Girardeaubrook this record.
