WDKY FOX started telecasting on February 10, 1986, as an independent channel. It was launched by John D. Backe. For a couple of months, WDKY was independent channel WLKT before. It competed with each other for the best products and movies and even airing the Independent Network News. On October 9, 1986, the station turned out to be a charter associate of Fox. WDKY started its production from office facilities situated at 434 Interstate Avenue in Lexington. Backeauctioned WDKY to the MMC Television Corporation in 1989. MMC, in turn, sold the channel to Superior Communications in 1992.

In 1996, WDKY and its related station KOCB FOX in Oklahoma City were both attained by the Sinclair Telecast media. On May 15, 2012, Fox decided to have a five-year extension. WDKY FOX was for the network’s association agreement. The contract was made with Sinclair’s 19 Fox channels. This included WDKY-TV that ran through 2017. On January 15, 2016, WDKY declared the launch of Comet on 56.2. While on the other hand, it dropped Get TV.
