In December 1944, Elm City broadcasting founded WTNH radio.

It was chiefly under the authority of Patrick J. Goode, U.S. postmaster for New Haven, Garo W. Ray, engineer, and Aldo DeDominicis. He was a radio sales assistant. ABC WTNH was the oldest television outlet of Connecticut. At the time of inception, WNHC-TV associated with DuMont Television Network. It is said to have been associated with the network, fulltime. Initially, ABC WTNH was telecast from WNHC radio’s building.

The channel did not have office facilities of its own. Therefore, it could not run regional production. For a time, WTNH TV generally re-telecast the signal of DuMont’s New York City leading channel, WABD. In October 1948, CBS production was added to the channel’s timetable. Furthermore, in the coming year, it also carried a second association with NBC and ABC. WTNH was the first outlet in the country to use videotape. It was used for regional production and one of the first to telecast in color.
